Instrument Cluster Description and Operation: Speedometer

The instrument cluster displays the vehicle speed based on the information from the K16A Battery Energy Control Module 1 X1. The K16A Battery Energy Control Module 1 sends the vehicle speed information via a High Speed CAN-Bus signal to the BCM. The BCM then sends the vehicle speed information via a Low Speed CAN-Bus signal to the instrument cluster in order to display the vehicle speed, either in kilometers or miles, based on the vehicle requirements. The speedometer defaults to 0 km/h (0 MPH) if:

• The BCM detects a loss of serial data communications with the K16A Battery Energy Control Module 1.
• The instrument cluster detects a loss of serial data communications with the BCM.
