Circuit/System Testing

WARNING:

Always perform the High Voltage Disabling procedure prior to servicing any High Voltage component or connection. Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) and proper procedures must be followed.

The High Voltage Disabling procedure includes the following steps:

  • Identify how to disable high voltage.
  • Identify how to test for the presence of high voltage.
  • Identify condition under which high voltage is always present and personal protection equipment (PPE) and proper procedures must be followed.

Before working on any high voltage system, be sure to wear the following Personal Protection Equipment:

  • Safety glasses with appropriate side shields when within 15 meters (50 feet) of the vehicle, either indoors or outdoors.
  • Certified and up-to-date Class "0" Insulation gloves rated at 1000V with leather protectors.
    • Visually and functionally inspect the gloves before use.
    • Wear the Insulation gloves with leather protectors at all times when working with the high voltage battery assembly, whether the system is energized or not.

Failure to follow the procedures may result in serious injury or death.

WARNING:

Before working internally on the high voltage battery, be sure to wear Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) in accordance with National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 70E, PPE Category 2, Minimum Arc Rating 8 cal/cm 2:

  • Safety face shield and sock hood/balaclava
  • Safety rated long sleeve shirt and pants or safety rated coveralls.
  • Hearing protection
  • Certified and up-to-date Class "0" Insulation gloves rated at 1000V with leather protectors.
    • Visually and functionally inspect the gloves before use.
    • Wear the Insulation gloves with leather protectors at all times when working with the high voltage battery assembly, whether the system is energized or not. Failure to follow these precautions could result in serious personal injury or death.
  1. Vehicle OFF, wait 10 minutes. With all vehicle systems OFF, disconnect the X8 and X9 harness connectors at the A4 Hybrid/Electric Vehicle Battery Pack.
  2. NOTE:

Other DTC (s) will be set during testing.

  3. Vehicle in Service Mode.
  4. Test for greater than 5 to 6 V between the test points: signal circuit terminal X8-1 and X9-20 to ground.
    • If not between 5 and 6 V
    • Test circuit 10900 for a short to ground.
    • If a short to ground is found, repair the fault on the circuit.
    • Go to next step: If a short to ground is not found
  5. Test circuit 10900 for an open/high resistance.
    • If an open/high resistance is found, repair the fault on the circuit.
    • Go to next step: If an open/high resistance is not found  .
  6. Test circuit 10900 for a short to voltage.
    • If a short to voltage is found, repair the fault on the circuit.
    • Go to next step: If a short to voltage is not found  .
  7. K16A Battery Energy Control Module 1 - Replace - Battery Energy Control Module 1 Replacement
    • If between 5 and 6 V
  8. Vehicle OFF, disable the high voltage at the A4 Hybrid/ Electric Vehicle Battery Pack. High Voltage Disabling
  9. A4 Hybrid/Electric Vehicle Battery Pack - Remove - Hybrid/Electric Vehicle Battery Pack Removal and Installation
  10. Remove the A4 Hybrid/Ev Battery Pack Cover.
  11. K291 Hybrid/Electric Vehicle Battery Pack Communication Module-Electrical Connector - Disconnect
  12. Test circuit 10900 for a short to ground.
    • If a short to ground is found

Replace the A4 Hybrid/Electric Vehicle Battery Pack internal low voltage harness assembly.

    • Go to next step: If a short to ground is not found
  13. Test circuit 10900 for an open/high resistance.
    • If an open/high resistance is found

Replace the A4 Hybrid/Electric Vehicle Battery Pack internal low voltage harness assembly.

    • Go to next step: If an open/high resistance is not found.
  14. Test circuit 10900 for an short to voltage.
    • Short to Voltage

Replace the A4 Hybrid/Electric Vehicle Battery Pack internal low voltage harness assembly.

    • Go to next step: If no short to voltage is found
  15. K291 Hybrid/Electric Vehicle Battery Pack Communication Module - Replace
