Installation Procedure

    Ensure the cylinder head locating pins (5) are securely mounted in the engine block deck face.

  2. Install a NEW cylinder head gasket (4) using the deck face locating pins for retention.
  3. Cylinder Head (3) - Install

    WARNING:

    The noise cancelling foam component MUST be replaced if it has been exposed to engine fluids. Failure to replace the noise cancelling foam component that has been exposed to engine fluids may result in an engine fire resulting in catastrophic engine damage, and possible injury or death.

    Inspect the fuel injection fuel rail noise shield (1) and replace if it has been exposed to engine fluids.

  5. CAUTION:

    Refer to Fastener Caution .

    CAUTION:

    This vehicle is equipped with torque-to-yield or single use fasteners. Install a NEW torque-to-yield or single use fastener when installing this component. Failure to replace the torque-to-yield or single use fastener could cause damage to the vehicle or component.

  6. Cylinder Head Bolt - M11 x 178 (4) - Install NEW and tighten in sequence [8x]
    1. First Pass: 60 N.m (44 lb ft)
    2. Final Pass: 185 degrees
  7. Cylinder Head Bolt - M8 x 80.8 (5) - Install NEW and tighten in sequence
    1. First Pass: 15 N.m (11 lb ft)
    2. Final Pass: 75 degrees

    CAUTION:

    Do not apply more room temperature vulcanization (RTV) silicone than specified. Excess RTV silicone could plug up oil passage holes in the camshaft carrier and lead to engine damage.

    NOTE:

    Camshaft carrier surfaces should be free and clean of oil and foreign substances.

    NOTE:

    Ensure proper use of room temperature vulcanizing (RTV) sealant. Use of Room Temperature Vulcanizing (RTV) and Anaerobic Sealant

    Place a 3 mm (0.118 in) bead of RTV sealant (1) on the bottom of the camshaft carrier, following the specific bead path. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers

  9. Place a 5 mm (0.197 in) bead of RTV sealant (1) on the bottom of the camshaft carrier as arrows show. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers
  10. Camshaft Carrier (2) - Install
  11. CAUTION:

    Refer to Fastener Caution .

  12. Camshaft Carrier Bolt (3) - Install and tighten in sequence [14x]
    1. First Pass: 6 N.m (53 lb in)
    2. Final Pass: 60 degrees
  13. Camshaft-Right Side - Install - Camshaft Replacement - Right Side 
  14. Position wire harness and connect as necessary.
  15. CAUTION:

    Refer to Fastener Caution .

  16. Install the 2 ground wires and ground wire bolts at the front and rear of the cylinder head. Tighten bolts to 15 N.m (11 lb ft).

    Warm Up Three-Way Catalytic Converter (2) @ Bank 1 - Install - Warm Up Three-Way Catalytic Converter Replacement (Bank 1, LGX)
