Removal Procedure

WARNING:

Refer to SIR Warning .

CAUTION:

If a vehicle is equipped with a head curtain inflator module ensure that the inflator module and tether are undamaged. If tether or curtain airbag are damaged in any way, they must be replaced.

CAUTION:

Use care when working around the head curtain inflator module. Sharp tools may puncture the curtain airbag. If the head curtain inflator module is damaged in any way, it must be replaced.

  1. Disable the SIR system. SIR Disabling and Enabling

    Pull down the windshield garnish molding (1) rearwards to release the tether from the A pillar.

  3. Access the windshield garnish bolt (2) on the backside of the windshield garnish molding (1).
  4. Windshield Garnish Molding Bolt (2) - Remove
  5. Disconnect the electrical connector.
  6. Windshield Garnish Molding (1) - Remove

    Using a flat-bladed plastic trim tool, release the retaining clips.

  8. Disconnect the electrical connector.
  9. Instrument Panel Extension (1) - Remove

    Radio Front Center Speaker Bolt (1) - Remove [ 2x ]

  11. Radio Front Center Speaker (2) - Remove
  12. Disconnect the electrical connector.

    Instrument Panel Upper Trim Panel Bolt (1) - Remove [ 2x ]

  14. Instrument Panel Upper Bolt (2) - Remove [ 4x ]
  15. Using a flat-bladed plastic trim tool, release the retaining clips.

    Instrument Panel Lower Trim Panel Outer Filler (1) - Remove

    Using a flat-bladed plastic trim tool, release the retaining clips.

    Instrument Panel Upper Bolt (1) - Remove [ 3x ]

    Using a flat-bladed plastic trim tool, release the retaining clips.

  23. Instrument Panel Fuse Block Access Hole Cover (1) - Remove

    Instrument Panel Trim Pad Bolt (1) - Remove

  25. Using a flat-bladed plastic trim tool, release the retaining clips.
  26. Disconnect the electrical connector.
    27. NOTE:

    Use care not to bend or deform the thin area of the instrument panel trim pad.

    Instrument Panel Trim Pad Bolt (1) - Remove

  29. Using a flat-bladed plastic trim tool, release the retaining clips.
  30. Disconnect the electrical connectors.

    Extend the steering column to its furthest point to allow the instrument panel steering column upper trim cover to clear the instrument panel.

  33. Using a small plastic trim tool, separate the instrument panel steering column upper trim cover (1) from the instrument panel steering column lower trim cover.

    Instrument Panel Cluster Trim Plate Bolt (1) - Remove [ 7x ]

    Instrument Panel Cluster Trim Plate (1) - Remove

  36. Disconnect the electrical connector.

    Instrument Panel Bolt (1) - Remove [ 5x ]

    Pull down the windshield garnish molding (1) rearwards to release the tether from the A pillar.

  40. Access the windshield garnish bolt (2) which is located on the backside of the windshield garnish molding (1) and secures the tether to the A pillar.
  41. Windshield Garnish Molding Bolt (2) - Remove
  42. Disconnect the electrical connector.

    Using a flat-bladed plastic trim tool, release the retaining clips.

  45. Radio Front Center Speaker Grille (1) - Remove

    Radio Front Speaker Bolt (1) - Remove [ 2x ]

  47. Radio Front Speaker (2) - Remove
  48. Disconnect the electrical connector.

    Using a flat-bladed plastic trim tool, release the retaining clips.

  50. Front Floor Console Applique (1) - Remove

    Front Floor Console Trim Plate Bolt (1) - Remove [ 3x ]

    Using a flat-bladed plastic trim tool, release the retaining clips.

  54. Instrument Panel Lower Trim Panel (1) - Remove

    Instrument Panel Compartment Bolt (1) - Remove [ 2x ]

  56. Using a flat-bladed plastic trim tool, release the retaining clips.

    Instrument Panel Compartment Bolt (1) - Remove [ 10x ]

    Instrument Panel Airbag Bolt (1) - Remove [ 3x ]

  61. Disconnect the instrument panel airbag electrical connector from the instrument panel harness.

    Instrument Panel Center Air Outlet Bolt (1) - Remove [ 2x ]

    Instrument Panel Upper Trim Panel Bolt (1) - Remove [ 10x ]

  65. Disconnect the electrical connectors and release the wiring harness retainers as necessary.

    NOTE:

    The instrument panel upper trim panel and instrument panel airbag will be removed as an assembly. Instrument panel airbag is a single use component. The airbag will need to be removed and scrapped.

    Instrument Panel Upper Trim Panel (2) - Remove

    Insert the flat tip driver (3) in between the airbag chute (2) and the air bag module hook (1) at the dotted line or base of hook.

  68. Tilt the flat tip driver forward until the air bag module hooks (1) break or bend enough to relieve the tension and allow for easier removal of the airbag from the chute.

    Instrument Panel Airbag (1) - Remove and DISCARD
