Parking Assist Description and Operation (UFQ): Notes
The parallel parking assist system can steer the vehicle automatically. Be aware that, in some unlikely situations, the vehicle steering wheel and wheels/tires may move without warning. Be especially aware of situations when vehicle front tires are lifted above the ground on a vehicle hoist as the wheels could move without warning. Exercise special care if any work is performed with the vehicle running and in gear while elevated on a hoist.
The parking assist system can help drivers avoid certain objects in their path during low-speed parking. The distance and location of the object is determined by 4 object sensors located in the rear fascia and 4 object sensors located in the front fascia. The parking assist system may not detect all children, pedestrians, bicyclists, animals or objects below the bumper. Drivers should remember to always check the area around the vehicle before moving forward or backing up. The parking assist system will not stop or slow down a vehicle. It does not engage a vehicle's throttle or braking. No safety system can take the place of an alert and engaged driver.
In addition to the eight object sensors used for front and rear parking assist, the automatic parking assist system uses two additional object sensors located on the front fascia. These sensors face toward the side of the vehicle and are used to aid the driver in positioning the vehicle in a parallel or perpendicular parking maneuver. Automatic parking assist automatically searches for and steers the vehicle into an available parallel or perpendicular parking spot. Drivers must always remember to take their hands off the wheel while the system is automatically steering and to remember to operate the brakes; Automatic parking assist will not brake the vehicle.
Any malfunction in the parking assist system may disable parallel parking assist. Parallel parking assist will not operate if the parking assist system is disabled.
