- Ignition - On / Vehicle - In Service Mode
- Verify DTC P0420 is not set.
- If the DTC is set
Refer to:DTC P0420
- Go to next step: If the DTC is not set
- If the DTC is set
- Verify there are no DTCs set related to the following component/system:
- B23 Camshaft Position Sensor
- B34 Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor
- B52 Heated Oxygen Sensor
- B74 Manifold Absolute Pressure Sensor
- B75C Multifunction Intake Air Sensor
- B150 Fuel Tank Pressure Sensor
- B198 Fuel Composition Sensor
- Q12 Evaporative Emission Purge Solenoid Valve
- Q17 Fuel Injector
- Engine Misfire
- Evaporative Emission (EVAP) System
- If a related DTC is set
- Go to next step: If a related DTC is not set
- Verify the following conditions do not exist:
- Coolant consumption - Refer to:Loss of Coolant
- Exhaust System - Leaking/Missing components/Restricted - Refer to:Symptoms - Engine Exhaust
- Fuel - Contaminated/Poor Quality - Refer to:Alcohol/Contaminants-in-Fuel Diagnosis
- Fuel System - Leaking - Refer to:Fuel System Diagnosis
- Oil consumption - Refer to:Oil Consumption Diagnosis
- Positive Crankcase Ventilation System - Refer to:Crankcase Ventilation System Inspection/Diagnosis
- Rich fuel mixture. - Refer to:Fuel Injector Diagnosis (NTB) , or Fuel Injector Diagnosis
- If a condition exists
Repair or replace as necessary.
- Go to next step: If no condition exists
- Verify a condition does not exist with the component:B52 Heated Oxygen Sensor
Loose/Poor Connection/Visible Damage
- If a condition exists
Repair or replace as necessary.
- Go to next step: If no condition exists
- If a condition exists
- Verify a condition does not exist with the component:Exhaust System
Leaking/Loose Clamps/Missing components/Restrictions/Visible Damage
- If a condition exists
Repair or replace as necessary.
- Go to next step: If no condition exists
- If a condition exists
- Verify a condition does not exist with the component:Three-Way Catalytic Converter
- A rattling sound indicates internal damage.
- Cracks or holes in the catalytic converter housing.
- Restrictions/Visible Damage
- Severe discoloration caused by excessive temperatures
- If a condition exists
Replace the component:Three-Way Catalytic Converter
- Go to next step: If no condition exists
- All OK.
