Installation Procedure

  1. Coat the exhaust camshaft with engine oil. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers 
  2. NOTE:

    Ensure that the camshaft notch at the front of the camshaft indicated by arrow is in the 12 O ' clock position before installing the camshaft caps.

  3. Install the exhaust camshaft (3) in the cylinder head.
  4. Prior to installing the camshaft bearing caps, rotate the oil seal in the groove of the number one camshaft journal so that the split line is approximately at the 12 O ' clock position as indicated by the arrow.
  5. NOTE:

    Ensure the caps are installed in the original location and position.

  6. Lubricate the camshaft bearing caps (2) and the bolts (1) with clean engine oil. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers 
  7. Install the camshaft bearing caps.(2)[6x]
  8. Hand start the 12 camshaft bearing cap bolts (1).

    CAUTION:

    Refer to Fastener Caution .

  10. Tighten the bearing cap bolts (1) in sequence three turns each until the caps are seated.
  11. Tighten the bearing cap bolts (1) in sequence as shown to 12 N.m (106 lb in).
