Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
  1. If replacing cylinder head, swap components as needed. Cylinder Head Assemble 
    1. Install timing components as needed. Intake and Exhaust Camshaft, Bearing Cap, and Lash Adjuster Installation

    NOTE:

    Ensure that the cylinder head and the cylinder block sealing surfaces are clear of oil, grease and old gasket material.

  2. Install the NEW cylinder head gasket (2)
  3. Install the cylinder head (1)

  4. Loosely install Cylinder Head Bolt (1)

    CAUTION:

    Refer to Torque-to-Yield Fastener Caution .

    CAUTION:

    Refer to Fastener Caution .

  5. Tighten the NEW bolts in sequence shown.

    Tighten

    1. Tighten the bolts a first pass to 30 N.m (22 lb ft).
    2. Using the EN-45059  angle meter, tighten the bolts a final pass to 240 degrees.

    NOTE:

    Use a suitable device to support the engine while repositioning the lift hook.

  6. Reposition the lift hook from the EN-36857  Engine Lift Bracket to the cylinder head lift bracket.
  7. Remove the EN-36857  Engine Lift Bracket (2).
  8. Remove the suitable device holding the engine during lift hook repositioning.
  9. Install Water Outlet - Water Outlet Replacement (LYX)

  10. Install Thermostat Bypass Pipe Bolt and tighten - Thermostat Bypass Pipe Replacement (LYX)
  11. Install Camshaft Timing Chain - Camshaft Timing Chain Replacement 
  12. Install Fuel Pump - Fuel Pump Replacement
  13. Install Intake Manifold - Intake Manifold Replacement 
  14. Install Vacuum Pump Assembly - Vacuum Pump Assembly Replacement

  15. Connect Fuel Feed Hose - Metal Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service

  16. Install Turbocharger - Turbocharger Replacement 
  17. Change the engine oil and filter. Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement 
  18. Fill the cooling system to the proper level. Cooling System Draining and Filling (GE 47716)Cooling System Draining and Filling (Static)
