Turbocharger Installation

1 Turbocharger Heat Shield
NOTE:

Use a NEW heat shield with gasket.

2 Turbocharger Oil Return Pipe
NOTE:

Use NEW turbocharger oil return pipe gaskets on the oil return pipe.

3 Turbocharger Oil Return Pipe Bolt - Flange to Turbocharger (Qty: 2)
CAUTION:

Refer to Fastener Caution .


Tighten 
10 N.m (89 lb in)
4 Turbocharger
5 Turbocharger Nut (Qty: 4)
Procedure 
Tighten the NEW turbocharger nuts in sequence.
  1. Tighten the nuts a first pass to 15 N.m (11 lb ft).
  2. Tighten the nuts a second pass to 20 N.m (15 lb ft).
  3. Using the EN-45059  angle meter, tighten the bolt a final pass 60 Degrees.

6 Turbocharger Oil Return Pipe Bolt - Flange to Block (Qty: 2)
Tighten 
10 N.m (89 lb in)
7 Turbocharger Pipe Fitting
NOTE:

Use a NEW fitting and gasket.


Tighten 
35 N.m (26 lb ft)
8 Turbocharger Oil Feed Pipe
CAUTION:

When installing a quick-connect turbocharger oil feed pipe, ensure that the oil feed pipe is fully secured into the oil feed pipe fitting. An audible click will be heard when the oil feed pipe is seated. If the oil feed pipe is not fully seated, an oil leak can occur in certain RPM ranges and will cause significant component and/or vehicle damage. Due to the possibility of significant component and/or vehicle damage from an oil feed pipe leak, it is necessary to start the engine and inspect for signs of leakage around the connections after performing the repair.

CAUTION:

Ensure that the turbocharger oil feed pipe does not rotate while torquing it. There should be a minimum 10 mm gap between the oil feed pipe and the v-band clamp. Failure to perform this could result in damage to the oil feed pipe and create an oil leak.

Procedure

    NOTE:
    • Use NEW turbocharger oil feed pipe gaskets on the bolt at the turbocharger connection.
    • A suitable tool can be used to ensure there is a 10 mm gap between the feed pipe and turbine housing while tightening the turbocharger oil feed pipe.
  1. Install the pipe with the bolt at the turbocharger.
  2. Attached the bottom of the pipe to the turbocharger pipe fitting at the engine block.
  3. Ensure that the oil feed pipe is fully secured into the turbocharger pipe fitting. An audible click will be heard when the oil feed pipe is seated.

Tighten 
32 N.m (24 lb ft)

NOTE:

Use a NEW fitting and gasket.


Tighten 
35 N.m (26 lb ft)
11 Turbocharger Coolant Feed Pipe

Procedure:

  1. Attach the coolant feed pipe at the pipe fitting.
  2. Ensure that the coolant feed pipe is fully secured into the turbocharger pipe fitting. An audible click will be heard when the coolant feed pipe is seated.
  3. NOTE:

    Use NEW turbocharger coolant feed pipe gaskets on the bolt at the turbocharger connection.

  4. Rotate the coolant feed pipe upwards to attach the bolt at the turbocharger.

Tighten 
35 N.m (26 lb ft)
12 Turbocharger Coolant Return Pipe

Procedure

    NOTE:

    Use NEW turbocharger coolant return pipe gaskets on the bolt at the turbocharger connection.

  1. Set the coolant return pipe in place and hand tighten the bolt at the turbocharger.
  2. Attach the hose to the thermal bypass pipe.
  3. Attach the hose at the water outlet assembly.

Tighten 
35 N.m (26 lb ft)
13 Turbocharger Coolant Return Pipe Bracket Bolt
Tighten 
10 N.m (89 lb in)
14 Positive Crankcase Ventilation Hose Fitting Bolt
NOTE:

The PCV hose and fitting assembly connection is permanent. Reinstall these components as an assembly unless new components are being used.


Tighten 
10 N.m (89 lb in)
