Piston And Connecting Rod Disassemble

Preliminary Procedure

    NOTE:

    Many internal engine components will develop specific wear patterns on their friction surfaces.

  1. Components MUST be separated, marked, or organized in a way to ensure installation to their original location and position. Take precautions in order to prevent interchanging of parts.
  2. Tag or mark each part immediately when removed. Indicate location, direction, or orientation when necessary.
1 Piston Compression Upper Ring
WARNING:

Handle the piston carefully. Worn piston rings are sharp and may cause bodily injury.

NOTE:

Use a suitable tool to expand the rings. The piston rings must not be reused.

5 Piston Oil Ring Rail
6 Piston Pin Retainer
WARNING:

Use extreme care when removing snap rings. Always wear adequate eye protection in order to avoid personal injury.

NOTE:

Two retainers hold the piston pins in place. Ensure that the piston pin is not damaged. Do not reuse the retainers.


Procedure 
Remove the piston pin retainers using the EN-49941  remover.
Special Tools 
EN-49941  Piston Pin Retainer Remover and Installer
For equivalent regional tools, refer to Special Tools .

NOTE:

An arrow/dot showing proper piston orientation is located on the top of the piston.

9 Connecting Rod
NOTE:

Features such as a raised section on the connecting rod may help identify the correct orientation relative to the front of the engine. Ensure that each connecting rod has been clearly marked upon removal to identify the cylinder, orientation, and direction of both the rod and cap.
