Rear Ball Joint Inspection (Rear Suspension Adjust Link to Rear Suspension Cradle)

- Raise and support the vehicle. Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
- Clean and inspect the rear suspension toe adjust link inner ball joint seal for cuts or tears. If the seal is damaged, replace the rear suspension adjust link. Adjust Link Replacement
Install the base of the J-8001 Dial Indicator Set, or equivalent, to the rear suspension cradle at the location shown above (1).
- Install the dial indicator J-8001 Dial Indicator Set, or equivalent, to the rear suspension adjust link with the contact point at the location shown above (2).
- Grasp the tire at the 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock locations. Attempt to induce ball joint movement by alternately pushing in with one hand and pulling with the other.
- Note the reading on the dial indicator. If the dial indicator indicates a total movement reading greater than 0.5 mm (0.02 in), replace the rear suspension adjust link. Adjust Link Replacement
- Remove the dial indicator J-8001 Dial Indicator Set, or equivalent, from the rear suspension adjust link and the rear suspension cradle.
- Remove the support and lower the vehicle.
CAUTION:
Do not pry in such a way that the ball joint seal is contacted. Damage to the seal may result.
