Removal Procedure

  1. Disconnect the charge air cooler outlet tube (1) from the throttle body (2). Charge Air Cooler Outlet Air Tube Replacement (LTG)
  2. Remove the catalytic converter. Catalytic Converter Replacement (LCV)Catalytic Converter Replacement (LTG)
  3. Remove the oil flow control valve heat shield. Oil Pump Flow Control Valve Heat Shield Replacement
    4. NOTE:

    Transmission jack is installed to transmission in this step.

  4. Disconnect the shift control assembly from the transmission. Shift Control Assembly Replacement (M3L)

  5. Remove the frame braces (3) from the vehicle. Drivetrain and Front Suspension Frame Removal and Installation (V-Series)Drivetrain and Front Suspension Frame Removal and Installation (Non V-Series)

  6. Disconnect the wiring harness from the transmission then disconnect the following electrical connectors:
    • Backup lamp switch (1)
    • Vehicle speed sensor (2)

    • Disconnect the fluid temperature sensor connector (2).

  7. Remove the hydraulic clutch hose/pipe (1) retaining clip from the clutch slave cylinder.
  8. Disconnect the hydraulic clutch hose/pipe (2) from the clutch slave cylinder. Plug the lower hose end.
  9. Remove the two right (engine side) lower transmission clutch housing to engine fasteners.

  10. Remove the two right (transmission side) lower transmission clutch housing to engine fasteners (1).

  11. Remove the two left lower transmission clutch housing to engine fasteners (1).

    NOTE:

    Securely support the drivetrain and front suspension cradle with an adjustable jack.

  12. Loosen the front cradle bolts (1) one turn, remove the rear cradle bolts (3) completely, loosen the middle cradle bolts (2) enough to allow the rear of the cradle support to tilt down with the jack approximately 25 mm (1 in) (a).
  13. Remove the three harness retainers from the upper clutch housing to engine fasteners to access the upper transmission fasteners.

  14. Remove the three upper transmission clutch housing to engine fasteners (1).
    15. NOTE:

    Do not leave the engine tilted on its mounts for an extended amount of time.

  15. Remove the transmission from the vehicle. To clear the body structure, the front of the engine can be pushed up to tilt the engine and transmission.
