Removal Procedure

WARNING:
In order to avoid being burned, do not service the exhaust system while it is still hot. Service the system when it is cool.
WARNING:
Avoid contact with HOT components. Wear safety glasses and protective gloves to avoid personal injury.
- Intake Manifold Cover Replacement (LF4)Intake Manifold Cover Replacement (LGX) - Remove
- Heated Oxygen Sensor Replacement - Bank 1 Sensor 1 (LF4)Heated Oxygen Sensor Replacement - Bank 1 Sensor 1 (LGX) - Disconnect
- Heated Oxygen Sensor Replacement - Bank 1 Sensor 2 (LF4)Heated Oxygen Sensor Replacement - Bank 1 Sensor 2 (LGX) - Disconnect
- Raise and support the vehicle. Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle (Base)Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle (V-Series)
- Using a metal cut off wheel, make a cut at the clamp welded bracket shown above (1).
- Mark either side of the production clamp (1), for proper alignment of replacement clamp location and muffler alignment.
- Loosen the exhaust clamp fastener (2).
- Catalytic Converter Nut - Remove
- Exhaust Muffler @Catalytic Converter - Separate
- DISCARD the gasket.
- Exhaust Muffler @Catalytic Converter - Separate
- DISCARD the clamp.
- Catalytic Converter Nut @Cylinder Head - Remove
- DISCARD the gasket.
- If equipped, remove the catalytic converter brace bracket. Catalytic Converter Brace Bracket Replacement (LF4) Catalytic Converter Brace Bracket Replacement (LGX)
- Catalytic Converter - Remove
- Transfer components as necessary.
NOTE:
The production clamp has a bracket that is welded to the right catalytic converter assembly. The production clamp welded bracket must be cut in order to replace serviceable components.
NOTE:
The serviceable Torca clamp comes with the replaced right catalytic converter.
NOTE:
It may be necessary to remove the old graphite Torca clamp sleeve with emery cloth or a wire brush.
