Installation Procedure

  1. The Rolloboot assembly contains the Rolloboot (1) and the carrier flange (2).

  2. Place the Rolloboot assembly (1) over the end of the upper intermediate steering shaft with the carrier flange toward the operator.

    NOTE:

    There is a step in the bore of the carrier that will stop against the end of the outer tube.

  3. Slide the Rolloboot assembly (1) up the upper intermediate steering shaft until the bore of the carrier engages with the end of the outer tube.

    NOTE:

    After the Rolloboot is on the outer tube, the carrier will be free and can be set aside.

  4. Holding the carrier (1) against the outer tube, push on the Rolloboot (2) and roll it onto the outer tube.
    5. NOTE:

    If the Rolloboot does NOT "flap", you may need to use your fingers to help with this operation.

  5. Continue to roll the Rolloboot (2) onto the outer tube until a portion of the Rolloboot unrolls and "flaps" onto the outer tube.

    NOTE:

    The graphic shows how the Rolloboot should look on the upper intermediate steering shaft prior to unrolling it.

  6. Inspect the Rolloboot (1) and make sure it is installed correctly on the upper intermediate steering shaft.

  7. Extend the inner tube (1) BEFORE unrolling the Rolloboot.

  8. Carefully slide the upper intermediate steering shaft (2) through the intermediate steering shaft inner boot and the intermediate steering shaft boot from the inside of the vehicle.
  9. Extend the upper intermediate steering shaft (2) as far as possible and connect it to the mid intermediate steering shaft.
    10. CAUTION:

    Refer to Fastener Caution .

  10. Mid Intermediate Steering Shaft Bolt - Install and tighten 36 N.m (27 lb ft)
    1. Clean the threads of the bolt with denatured alcohol or equivalent and allow to dry.
    2. Apply thread locking adhesive to the bolt. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers

    NOTE:

    The upper intermediate steering shaft and mid intermediate steering shaft MUST be connected and the mid intermediate steering shaft bolt tightened to specification BEFORE unrolling the Rolloboot.

  11. Unroll Rolloboot (1) completely to cover the upper intermediate steering shaft splines.
