Removal Procedure

- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
- Ensure the vehicle is level.
- Inspect the rear axle for leaks. Repair as necessary.
- Clean the area around the rear axle fill plug.
- Remove the fill plug (1) and seal (2).
- Inspect the lubricant level. The level should be even with the bottom of the fill hole.
- If the level is low, add lubricant until the level is even with the bottom of the fill plug opening. Use the proper fluid. Refer to Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers , Approximate Fluid Capacities
- Install the rear axle fill plug and tighten to 39 N.m (29 lb ft).
- Lower the vehicle.
