Circuit/System Verification

Ignition OFF
Test for 12.0 V at the battery terminals.
- If less than 12.0 V
  Refer to Battery Inspection/Test
- If 12.0 V
Verify that there are no A/C lines, heater houses or other accessory equipment misrouted or rubbing against the generator causing the noise to be transmitted into the passenger compartment.
- If there is a line rubbing condition
  Reroute or realign the hose or line.
- If there is no line rubbing condition
Remove the engine drive belt. Verify all the belt driven devices spin freely and do not produce any unusual sounds.
- If they do not spin freely or they make an unusual sound
  Replace the affected component.
- If they spin freely and no unusual sound is given
Inspect the generator, its alignment, and its bolt torque.
- If the generator is misaligned or improperly torque
  Refer to Generator Replacement (LCV - without Generator Shield) Generator Replacement (LGX) Generator Replacement (LCV - with Generator Shield) .
- If the generator is aligned and torqued properly
Ignition ON
Engine running idle, verify that the noise concern is not engine related.
- If the noise concern is engine related
  Proceed to engine mechanical diagnostic information and procedures for the appropriate engine.
- If the noise concern is not engine related
Ignition OFF
Install the engine drive belt.
Ignition ON, engine running idle.
Verify the generator is not producing unusual noise.
- If the generator is producing unusual noise
  Replace the generator, refer to Generator Replacement (LCV - without Generator Shield) Generator Replacement (LGX) Generator Replacement (LCV - with Generator Shield) .
- If the generator is not producing unusual noise
All OK.
