Removal Procedure

  1. Disable the SIR system. SIR Disabling and Enabling 
  2. Remove Steering Column Upper Trim Cover Steering Column Upper Trim Cover Replacement

  3. Turn the steering wheel to gain access to the spring fasteners (1) located on the backside of the steering wheel.

    NOTE:

    Rotate the steering wheel so that the service opening is at the top.

  4. Insert a screwdriver (1) or equivalent tool into service opening.
  5. Apply and keep constant pressure on handle to push spring inward to disengage the spring fastener (2).
  6. Rotate and repeat the steps to release the other two spring fasteners (2)

  7. To release the steering wheel airbag (2) from the steering wheel, move the airbag downward, while the steering wheel remains in the upside-down position.
  8. Release the connector position assurance (CPA) retainers.
  9. Disconnect the electrical connectors.
  10. Remove Steering Wheel Airbag (2)
  11. Inflatable Restraint Module Handling and Scrapping
