Circuit/System Description

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2017 Cadillac ATS. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Stop Lamps - with TVN

The brake pedal position sensor is used to sense the action of the driver application of the brake pedal. The brake pedal position sensor provides an analog voltage signal that will increase as the brake pedal is applied. The body control module (BCM) provides a low reference signal and a 5 V reference voltage to the brake pedal position sensor. When the variable signal reaches a voltage threshold indicating the brakes have been applied, the BCM will apply battery voltage to the stop lamp control circuit as well as the center high mounted stop lamp control circuit illuminating the left and right stop lamps and the center high mounted stop lamp.

When the variable signal reaches a voltage threshold indicating the brakes have been applied, the BCM will apply battery voltage to the left and right turn signal/stop lamp control circuits and the center high mounted stop lamp control circuit illuminating the stop lamps and center high mounted stop lamp. The turn signal/stop lamp control circuits also serve as the control circuits for the left and right rear turn signals. These combined circuits set individual turn signal system related DTC's as well as notifications to the driver information center notifying of rear turn signal failure. These turn signal/stop lamp control circuits will be diagnosed within those turn signal DTC's as well as the Turn Signal Lamps and/or Indicators Malfunction diagnostic.
