Removal Procedure

- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle (ATS)Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle (ATS-V) .
- Drain the differential assembly. Refer to Front Axle Lubricant Replacement .
- Lower the drivetrain and front suspension frame assembly. Refer to Drivetrain and Front Suspension Frame Removal and Installation (LF4)Drivetrain and Front Suspension Frame Removal and Installation (LGX, LTG) .
- Remove the front propeller shaft from the differential and position out of the way. Refer to Front Axle Propeller Shaft Replacement (LGX, LTG) .
- Remove the left front wheel drive shaft. Refer to Front Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement - Left Side .
- Remove the right front wheel drive shaft. Refer to Front Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement - Right Side .
- Remove the front wheel drive intermediate shaft housing. Refer to Front Wheel Drive Intermediate Shaft Housing Replacement .
- Using the engine support fixture, carefully lower the engine assembly enough to allow the front differential carrier assembly to be removed through the right wheel opening.
- Position a transmission jack beneath the front differential carrier (2).
- Firmly secure the front differential carrier to the transmission jack.
- Remove the front differential carrier (2) to front oil pan mounting bolts (1).
- Remove the front differential carrier (2) to rear oil pan mounting bolts (1).
- Remove the intermediate wheel drive shaft (2) and the front differential carrier assembly (1) from the oil pan (3).
- Remove the front differential carrier assembly from the vehicle.
NOTE:
The intermediate wheel drive shaft and the front differential carrier are to be removed as an assembly.
