Parking Brake Shoe Inspection

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle (ATS)Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle (ATS-V) .
  2. Remove the rear tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (Non V-Series)Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (V-Series) .
  3. Remove the rear brake caliper. Refer to Rear Brake Caliper Replacement (JE5, J55)Rear Brake Caliper Replacement (J6G) .
  4. Remove the rear brake caliper bracket. Refer to Rear Brake Caliper Bracket Replacement .
  5. Remove the rear brake rotor. Refer to Rear Brake Rotor Replacement (JE5, J55)Rear Brake Rotor Replacement (J6G) .
  6. Inspect and replace the park brake shoe and lining if any of the following conditions are found:
    • Excessive wear indicated by the park brake lining being worn down to the shoe
    • Brake lining cracking
    • Oil or fluid contamination of the brake lining
  7. Adjust the park brake shoe. Refer to Parking Brake Adjustment .
  8. Install the rear brake rotor. Refer to Rear Brake Rotor Replacement (JE5, J55)Rear Brake Rotor Replacement (J6G) .
  9. Install the rear brake caliper bracket. Refer to Rear Brake Caliper Bracket Replacement .
  10. Install the rear brake caliper. Refer to Rear Brake Caliper Replacement (JE5, J55)Rear Brake Caliper Replacement (J6G) .
  11. Install the rear tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (Non V-Series)Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (V-Series) .
  12. Lower the vehicle.
