Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle (ATS)Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle (ATS-V) .
  2. Drain the transfer case fluid, if necessary. Refer to Transfer Case Fluid Replacement .
  3. Remove the front propeller shaft. Refer to Front Axle Propeller Shaft Replacement (LGX, LTG) .
  4. Remove the propeller shaft. Refer to Two-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement (LTG, LGX, LCV)Two-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement (LF4) .

  5. Support the transmission with a suitable jack.
  6. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the transfer case.

  7. Remove the transmission support assembly (2) from the vehicle. Refer to Transmission Support Replacement (Automatic RWD)Transmission Support Replacement (Automatic AWD)Transmission Support Replacement (Manual) .
  8. Using the jack, lower the transmission enough to access the rear transfer case mounting fasteners.
  9. Using a suitable transmission jack, support the transfer case.
  10. Using suitable straps or chains, secure the transfer case to the transmission jack.

  11. Remove the four rear transfer case mounting fasteners (1).

  12. Remove the three front transfer case mounting fasteners (1).
  13. Lower the transfer case out of the vehicle.
  14. Remove and DISCARD the vehicle wiring harness bracket located on the top of the transfer case assembly.
