Circuit/System Description

The vehicle stability control switch allows the vehicle operator to modify the traction and ride characteristics of the vehicle. To activate the system, the rocker type switch button is either rocked forward or rocked rearward to scroll through and select a traction and ride mode.

The Engine Control Module (ECM) supplies 5V reference voltage to the vehicle stability control switch. The 5V reference voltage induces current to flow through a series of four resistors in the switch to the switch ground circuit. The ECM monitors the reference voltage through a discrete signal circuit. Pressing the button to Increment mode allows the 5V reference voltage to by-pass one of the resistors. Pressing the button to Decrement mode allows the 5V reference voltage to by-pass two of the resistors. The ECM determines which mode is being selected based on the resultant voltage drop.
