Circuit Description

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2017 Cadillac ATS. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

The vehicle stability control switch allows the vehicle operator to modify the traction and ride characteristics of the vehicle. The Engine Control Module (ECM) supplies a 5 V reference voltage, through the 5 V reference voltage circuit, to the vehicle stability control switch. The 5 V reference voltage induces current to flow through a series of resistors in the switch to the switch ground circuit. The ECM monitors the reference voltage through a discrete vehicle stability control switch signal circuit. To activate the system, the switch button is momentarily pressed, which allows the 5 V reference voltage to by-pass one of the resistors. The ECM detects the resulting voltage drop as a request to activate the system and sends a GMLAN message to the various control modules indicating the request. The driver information center (DIC) displays the available modes, which include Touring, Sport, and Snow/Ice mode. Each additional press of the switch selects the next mode in the order it appears. When the mode has been selected, the various control modules change their calibrations in order to adjust the suspension, steering, and drivetrain to fit the characteristics of the mode selected.
