Circuit/System Description

The intermediate speed sensor is a 2 wire hall effect sensor. The intermediate speed sensor signal pick up end faces the machined trigger slots on the outside diameter of the reaction carrier/output internal gear assembly. A 9 V reference circuit is supplied by the transmission control module (TCM) to the intermediate speed sensor. As the reaction carrier/output internal gear assembly begins to rotate, the intermediate speed sensor produces a square wave signal. As the rotational speed of the reaction carrier/output internal gear assembly increases, the number or frequency of the square wave signal increases. The square wave is transmitted back to the TCM on the signal circuit. The TCM uses the intermediate speed sensor signal to calculate transmission reaction carrier speed. The input, intermediate and output speed sensor signals are used to determine line pressures, shift patterns, gear ratio and torque converter clutch (TCC) apply and release.
