Circuit/System Description

The transmission input speed sensor is a 2 wire hall effect sensor. The transmission input speed sensor signal pick up end faces the machined trigger slots on the outside diameter of the 1-3-5-6-7 clutch housing. The 9 V reference circuit is supplied by the transmission control module (TCM) to the input speed sensor. As the 1-3-5-6-7 clutch housing begins to rotate, the transmission input speed sensor produces a square wave signal. As the rotational speed of the clutch housing increases, the number or frequency of the square wave signal increases. The square wave is transmitted back to the TCM on the input speed signal circuit. The TCM uses the input speed signal to calculate transmission input shaft speed. The input, intermediate and output speed sensor signals are used to determine line pressures, shift patterns, gear ratio and torque converter clutch (TCC) apply and release.
