Siphoning The Fuel Tank
Do not allow smoking or the use of open flames in the area where work on the fuel or EVAP system is taking place. Anytime work is being done on the fuel system, disconnect the negative battery cable, except for those tests where battery voltage is required.
If the fuel pump is inoperative, the tank must be drained by siphoning from the tank. The fill pipe contains a screen that prevents siphoning through the pipe. A suitable means is through the fuel fill pipe hose connection at the tank using the correct type and stiffness of tubing as used with the CH 45004 Fuel Tank Drain Hose.
The fuel level may be above the fill pipe inlet on the fuel tank and some spillage may occur when the hose is disconnected and/or when the siphon hose is inserted. A large drain pan must be used in conjunction with an approved fuel container.
- Loosen the fuel fill pipe hose clamp and remove the hose at the fuel tank.
- Insert the CH 45004 Fuel Tank Drain Hose fuel tank drain hose into the fuel tank until the hose reaches the bottom of the fuel tank.
- Use a hand or air operated pump device in order to drain as much fuel as possible into an approved fuel container.
The siphon hose will reach the bottom of the tank on the primary side only. Some fuel will remain in the secondary side of the tank.
