Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
  1. Remove the fuel pump. Refer to Fuel Pump Replacement .
  2. Remove the camshaft position actuators. Refer to Camshaft Position Actuator Replacement - Bank 2 .
  3. Fig 1: Bearing Caps

  4. Observe the markings on the bearing caps (1). Each bearing cap is marked in order to identify its location. The markings have the following meanings:
    • The raised feature must always be oriented toward the center of the cylinder head.
    • The I indicates the intake camshaft.
    • The E indicates the exhaust camshaft.
    • The number indicates the journal position from the front of the engine.

  6. Remove the camshaft bearing cap bolts (1).
  7. Remove the camshaft bearing caps (2).

    NOTE:

    Mark the camshafts upon removal to ensure installation is in the correct position.

  9. Remove the camshafts (1).
