Balance Shaft Replacement - Right Side

Removal Procedure

1. Remove the balance shaft drive chain. Refer to Balance Chain Replacement Service and Repair.





Note:
* Do not disassemble the balance shaft assembly. Remove and install the balance shaft as a complete assembly.
* Rotate the balance shaft to check for free rotation. If the balance shaft does not turn free, inspect the balance shaft bearings and bearing surface for damage.

2. Remove and discard the right balance shaft retaining bolts.
3. Remove the right balance shaft assembly.

Installation Procedure




1. Lubricate the balance shaft bearing journals with clean engine oil.
2. Install the right balance shaft assembly with the counterweight down to prevent damage to the balance shaft bearings.

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution Fastener Caution.

3. Install the new balance shaft retaining bolts and tighten to 12 Nm (106 lb in).
4. Install the balance shaft drive chain. Refer to Balance Chain Replacement Service and Repair.
