Engine Block Assemble

  1. Install the cylinder block-to-cylinder head alignment dowels.

  3. Install the NEW front oil gallery expansion plug.
  4. Ensure the NEW front oil gallery expansion plug is installed to the proper depth.

  6. Install the cylinder block-to-transmission alignment dowels.

  8. Ensure proper use of room temperature vulcanizing (RTV) sealant. Use of Room Temperature Vulcanizing (RTV) and Anaerobic Sealant

    Apply the RTV sealant on the NEW coolant expansion plugs. Refer to Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers for recommended sealant.

  9. Install the NEW coolant expansion plugs.
  10. Ensure the NEW coolant expansion plugs are installed to the proper depth.

  12. Apply thread sealant on the threads of the M20 left side oil gallery threaded plug. Refer to Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers for recommended sealant.
  13. CAUTION:

    Refer to Fastener Caution .

  14. Install the M20 left side oil gallery threaded plug and tighten to 75 N.m (55 lb ft).

  16. Apply thread sealant on the threads of the M14 left side coolant drain threaded plug. Refer to Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers for recommended sealant.
  17. Install the M14 left side coolant drain threaded plug and tighten to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).

  19. Apply thread sealant on the threads of the M14 rear oil gallery threaded plug. Refer to Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers for recommended sealant.
  20. Install the M14 rear oil gallery threaded plug and tighten to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).

  22. Apply thread sealant on the threads of the M14 right side coolant drain threaded plug. Refer to Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers for recommended sealant.
  23. Install the M14 right side coolant drain threaded plug and tighten to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).

  25. Apply thread sealant on the threads of the M14 right side oil gallery threaded plug. Refer to Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers for recommended sealant.
  26. Install the M14 right side oil gallery threaded plug and tighten to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).

  28. Install the cylinder block-to-oil pan alignment dowels.

  30. Install the NEW right front oil pan rail oil gallery expansion plug.
  31. Ensure the NEW right front oil pan rail oil gallery expansion plug is installed to the proper depth.

  33. Install the oil jets.
  34. Install the oil jet bolts and tighten to 10 N.m (89 lb in).

  36. Install the NEW crankshaft position sensor O-ring, if damaged.

  38. Install the crankshaft position sensor.
  39. Install the crankshaft position sensor bolt and tighten to 10 N.m (89 lb in).

  41. Install the left knock sensor to the cylinder block, as shown.
  42. Install the left knock sensor bolt and tighten to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).
  43. Ensure proper sensor orientation.

  45. Install the right knock sensor to the cylinder block, as shown.
  46. Install the right knock sensor bolt and tighten to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).
  47. Ensure proper sensor orientation.

  49. Install the block heater cartridge, if equipped.

  51. Install the engine front cover studs (1) and tighten to 15 N.m (11 lb ft).
