Tip: J-46623
prevents the piston seal lip from damage during installation. See Special Tools . Apply a thin coat of ATF to the I.D. of J-46623
to ease the installation of the piston. See Special Tools .

1-2-3-4 Clutch Spring Retainer Ring
Tip:
- The retainer opening should be supported by a spline tooth of the case.
- Install J-46632
and DT-48056
and retain to the case using 2 case cover assembly bolts. See Special Tools .
Tighten:
12 N.m (9 lb ft).
- Turn the DT-48056
compressor bolt to compress the 1-2-3-4 Clutch Spring until the retaining ring groove is exposed. See Special Tools .
- Push retainer ring into the groove.
- Remove DT-48056
and J-46632
. See Special Tools .
- Air check the piston operation by applying air to the 1-2-3-4 clutch feed passage in the case.
- Excessive air leaks indicate damage to the clutch piston seal.
