Circuit/System Testing

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
  1. With the ignition OFF for at least 30 seconds, disconnect the TC vane position control solenoid valve.
  2. Connect the J 34730-405  between the high control and the low reference circuits.
  3. With the engine running, command the TC Pos. Ctrl. solenoid ON and OFF with a scan tool. The test lamp should turn ON and OFF.
    • If the test lamp does not turn ON and OFF, test the high control and low reference circuits for an open, a short to ground, a short to voltage, or a faulty ECM.
    • If the test lamp turns ON and OFF, test the high control and low control circuits for high resistance or for a faulty turbocharger solenoid. Refer to Component Testing .
  4. With the ECM and TC vane position sensor connectors disconnected, measure for a resistance of less than 3 ohms on the sensor signal circuit.
    • If the resistance is over 3 ohms, repair the high resistance or poor connection on the signal circuit.
  5. Inspect the turbocharger vane control solenoid for debris, damage, or sticking. Refer to Component Testing .
    • If debris, damaged, or a stuck vane position solenoid is verified, replace the turbocharger vane position solenoid.
  6. Inspect the turbocharger for debris, damage, or sticking vanes. Refer to Turbocharger Cleaning and Inspection .
    • If debris, damaged, or sticking vanes are verified, replace the turbocharger assembly.
