Installation Procedure

  1. Apply lubricant GM P/N 12345501 (Canadian P/N 992704), or equivalent to the following components:
    • The camshaft lobes
    • The camshaft bearing journals
    • The camshaft bearings
      NOTE: All camshaft journals are the same diameter, so care must be used in removing or installing the camshaft to avoid damage to the camshaft bearings.
  2. Install three 8 - 1.25 x 100 mm bolts into the camshaft threaded bolt holes.
  3. Using the bolts as a handle, carefully install the camshaft.
  4. Remove the bolts from the front of the camshaft.

    NOTE: Refer to FASTENER NOTICE in Cautions and Notices.
  6. Install the camshaft retainer and bolts.

    Tighten:  Tighten the bolts to 12 N.m (106 lb in).

  7. Install the timing chain and sprocket. Refer to Timing Chain and Sprockets Replacement .
  8. Install the valve lifters. Refer to Valve Lifter Replacement .
  9. Install the A/C condenser. Refer to Condenser Replacement in Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning.
  10. Install the grille. Refer to Grille Replacement (GMC) or Grille Replacement (Chevrolet) in Exterior Trim.
