Installation Procedure

CAUTION: When removing, handling or installing this component wear protective gloves. The sharp edges on the component may be very sharp and may cause injury.

    IMPORTANT: When installing the flywheel, ensure that the tapered side of the teeth are facing the starter.
  1. Install the flywheel.
  2. Install the flywheel washer with the beveled side facing the engine.
    NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice .
  3. NOTE: This component uses bolts with a preapplied molybdenum disulfide coating for thread lubrication. Do not remove the coating or use any additional lubricant. Improperly lubricated threads will adversely affect the bolt torque and clamp load. Improper bolt torque and clamp load can lead to engine damage.
  4. Install NEW flywheel bolts.

  6. Tighten the flywheel bolts in the proper sequence.

    Tighten: 

    1. Tighten the bolts a first pass to 79 N.m (58 lb ft).
    2. Tighten the bolts a second pass to 60 degrees using J 45059  .
    3. Tighten the bolts a final pass an additional 60 degrees using J 45059  .

  8. Remove J 44643  from the flywheel. See Special Tools .
  9. Install the transmission. Refer to Transmission Replacement , Transmission Replacement or Transmission Replacement .
