Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2007 GMC Sierra and 2007 Chevrolet Silverado. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
CAUTION:

When raising or supporting the engine for any reason, do not use a jack under any sheet metal, or the crankshaft pulley, or damage may occur.

  1. Remove the upper intake manifold sight shield. Refer to Upper Intake Manifold Sight Shield Replacement .
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
  3. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  4. Remove the left wheelhouse liner. Refer to FRONT WHEELHOUSE LINER REPLACEMENT - LEFT SIDE (CHEVROLET) or FRONT WHEELHOUSE LINER REPLACEMENT - LEFT SIDE (GMC) .

  6. Remove the engine mount to frame bolts (1)
  7. Undo clip for transmission cooler lines.
  8. Undo the front stabilizer shaft insulators. Refer to STABILIZER SHAFT INSULATOR REPLACEMENT (1500) .
  9. Support the differential carrier with a transmission jack.
  10. Remove the right differential carrier mounting nuts and washers.
  11. Lower the differential carrier until it rests on frame/crossmember.
  12. Remove the front differential carrier support bracket.
  13. Position an adjustable jack and a block of wood under the engine oil pan and raise the engine slightly.
  14. Remove exhaust manifold heat shield. Refer to Exhaust Manifold Heat Shield Replacement - Left Side .

  16. Working through the wheelhouse opening, remove the engine mount to engine bolts (1).
  17. Using the adjustable jack, raise the engine slightly until there is enough clearance to remove the engine mount.

  19. Remove the engine mount toward the front of the vehicle.
