Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 6 other vehicles, including the 2003 GMC Savana Special, 2003 GMC Savana Camper Special, 2003 GMC Savana, 2003 Chevrolet RV Cutaway, and 2003 Chevrolet Cutaway. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Install the propeller shaft to the transmission.

  2. Connect the propeller shaft to the rear axle pinion yoke.
    CAUTION: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
  3. Install the bolts and the yoke retainers to the rear axle pinion yoke.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the rear axle pinion yoke retainer bolts to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).

  4. Install the propeller shaft hanger.
  5. Install the propeller shaft hanger bolts.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the propeller shaft hanger bolts to 52 N.m (38 lb ft).

  6. Install the center bearing to the bracket.
  7. Install the center bearing bolts (3).

    Tighten 

    Tighten the center bearing bolts to 40 N.m (30 lb ft).

  8. Remove the safety stands and lower the vehicle.
