Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 6 other vehicles, including the 2003 GMC Savana Special, 2003 GMC Savana Camper Special, 2003 GMC Savana, 2003 Chevrolet RV Cutaway, and 2003 Chevrolet Cutaway.   1. Install the front propeller shaft in the transfer case.

  2. Remove the tape from the propeller shaft U-Joint.

    Important:  Ensure that the alignment marks on the U-Joint and the yoke are aligned for proper installation.

  3. Install the front propeller shaft in the front differential yoke.

  4. Install the propeller shaft retainers.

    CAUTION: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
  5. Install the propeller shaft retainer bolts.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the retainer bolts to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).

  6. Check the fluid level of the front differential. Refer to LUBRICANT LEVEL INSPECTION - FRONT DRIVE AXLE .
  7. Inspect the fluid level of the transfer case.
  8. Lower the vehicle.
