Brake Caliper Brackets: Installation

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 6 other vehicles, including the 2003 GMC Savana Special, 2003 GMC Savana Camper Special, 2003 GMC Savana, 2003 Chevrolet RV Cutaway, and 2003 Chevrolet Cutaway. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Install the brake caliper bracket. Perform the following procedure before installing the brake caliper bracket mounting bolts. Remove all traces of the original adhesive patch. Clean the threads of the bolt with denatured alcohol or equivalent and allow to dry. Apply Threadlocker GM P/N 12345493 (Canadian P/N 10953488).
  2. Install the caliper bracket mounting bolts. Tighten to specifications. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  3. Install the anti-rattle clips to the brake caliper bracket. Install the brake pads to the brake caliper bracket. Slide the brake pads in until they contact the rotor.
  4. Install the brake caliper. See BRAKE CALIPERS  . Install the tire and wheel assembly. Tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  . Lower the vehicle.
  5. With the engine OFF, gradually apply the brake pedal to approximately 2/3 of its travel distance. Slowly release the brake pedal.
  6. Wait 15 seconds, then repeat step  5 until a firm pedal is obtained. This will properly seat the brake caliper pistons and brake pads.


  1. Install the brake caliper bracket. Perform the following procedure before installing the brake caliper bracket mounting bolts:
    1. Remove all traces of the original adhesive patch.
    2. Clean the threads of the bolt with denatured alcohol or equivalent and allow to dry.
    3. Apply Threadlocker GM P/N 12345493 (Canadian P/N 10953488) to the threads of the bolt.
  2. Install the caliper bracket mounting bolts and tighten to specifications. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  3. Install the anti-rattle clips to the brake caliper mounting bracket. Install the brake pads to the brake caliper mounting bracket. Slide the brake pads in until they contact the rotor.
  4. Install the brake caliper. See BRAKE CALIPERS  . Install the tire and wheel assembly. Tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  . Lower the vehicle.

  1. Install the anti-rattle clips to the brake caliper mounting bracket. Install the brake pads to the brake caliper mounting bracket. Install the brake caliper to the brake caliper mounting bracket. Install the brake caliper mounting bolts to the brake caliper mounting bracket. Do not tighten.
  2. Install the brake caliper and brake caliper mounting bracket as an assembly. Perform the following procedure before installing the brake caliper mounting bracket bolts. Remove all traces of the original adhesive patch. Clean the threads of the bolt with denatured alcohol or equivalent and allow to dry. Apply Threadlocker GM P/N 12345493 (Canadian P/N 10953488) to the threads of the bolt.
  3. Install the brake caliper mounting bracket bolts and tighten to specifications. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  . Tighten the brake caliper mounting bolts to specifications. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  4. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  . Lower the vehicle.
  5. With the engine OFF, gradually apply the brake pedal to approximately 2/3 of it's travel distance. Slowly release the brake pedal.
  6. Wait 15 seconds, then repeat step  5 until a firm pedal is obtained. This will properly seat the brake caliper pistons and brake pads.
