Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2010 GMC Sierra, 2010 Chevrolet Silverado, and 2010 Chevrolet Cab & Chassis Silverado. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: When raising or supporting the engine for any reason, do not use a jack under the oil pan, any sheet metal, or the crankshaft pulley.

  1. Remove the intake manifold sight shield. Refer to Upper Intake Manifold Sight Shield Replacement .
  2. Partially raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  3. Remove the left wheelhouse liner. Refer to Front Wheelhouse Liner Replacement - Left Side (Chevrolet) or Front Wheelhouse Liner Replacement - Left Side (GMC) .
  4. Remove the engine mount to frame bolts (1).
  5. Undo clip for transmission cooler lines.
  6. Undo the front stabilizer shaft insulators. Refer to STABILIZER SHAFT INSULATOR REPLACEMENT (1500) .
  7. NOTE: Step 8 - 11 are for vehicles equipped 4WD. If Vehicle is equipped with 2WD, proceed to step 12.

    Support the differential carrier with a transmission jack.

  8. Remove the right differential carrier mounting nuts and washers.
  9. Lower the differential carrier until it rests on frame/crossmember.
  10. Remove the front differential carrier support bracket.
  11. Position a screw jack and a block of wood under the engine oil pan.
  12. Remove the left side exhaust manifold heatshield. Refer to Exhaust Manifold Heat Shield Replacement - Left Side (V6) or Exhaust Manifold Heat Shield Replacement - Left Side (V8) .

  13. Remove the engine mount to engine bolts (1).
  14. Using the adjustable jack, raise the engine slightly until there is enough clearance to remove the engine mount.

  15. Remove the engine mount.
