Circuit/System Testing

- Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the EVAP canister purge or vent solenoid valve.
- Ignition ON, verify that a test lamp illuminates between the voltage supply circuit terminal A for purge or terminal B for vent and ground.
- If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the voltage supply circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal and the voltage supply circuit fuse is open, test or replace the EVAP canister purge or vent solenoid.
- Verify that a test lamp does not illuminate between the B+ or ignition circuit terminal A for purge or terminal B for vent and the control circuit terminal B for purge or terminal A for vent.
- If the test lamp illuminates, test the control circuit for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, replace the ECM.
- Remove the test lamp.
- Ignition ON, command the canister purge or vent solenoid ON and OFF with a scan tool while observing the following control circuit status parameters. Each parameter should toggle between OK and Not Run or Not Run and OK.
- EVAP Vent or Purge Sol Ckt. Short Gnd Test Status
- EVAP Vent or Purge Sol Ckt. Open Test Status
- EVAP Vent or Purge Sol Ckt. Short Volts Test Status
- If not the specified value, test the control circuit for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal, replace the ECM.
- Install a 3 A fused jumper wire between the control circuit terminal B for purge or terminal A for vent and the B+ or ignition circuit terminal A for purge or terminal B for vent. Command the purge or vent solenoid ON with a scan tool. Verify the scan tool purge or vent solenoid Ckt. Short Volts Test Status Parameter is Fault.
- If not the specified value, test the control circuit for an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the ECM.
- If all circuits test normal, replace the appropriate purge or vent solenoid valve.
