Removal Procedure

    WARNING: Refer to Battery Disconnect Warning .
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (Single Battery)  or Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (Dual Batteries)  or Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (Auxiliary Battery) .
  2. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  3. Remove the oil pan skid plate bolts and plate, if equipped.

  5. Remove the starter solenoid cable clip bolt (2) from the frame.

  7. Remove the starter motor bolts.

  9. Remove the starter solenoid cable lead nut (1).
  10. Remove the starter solenoid cable lead (2) from the starter.

  12. Remove the engine wiring harness lead nut (2).
  13. Remove the engine wiring harness lead (5) from the starter.

  15. Remove the starter from the vehicle.

    NOTE: If the starter shield is damaged, replace the starter shield.
  17. If replacing the starter, remove the starter heat shield.
