Installation Procedure

  1. Install the starter motor.
  2. CAUTION: Refer to Fastener Caution .
  3. Install the starter motor bolts (1).

    Tighten:  Tighten the bolts to 85 N.m (63 lb ft).

  4. Install the exhaust manifold-to-catalytic converter pipe. Refer to Catalytic Converter Replacement (LY6 with Exhaust Flange) or Catalytic Converter Replacement (L9H with Exhaust Flange) or Catalytic Converter Replacement (Gen IV Engines with Exhaust Clamp) or Catalytic Converter Replacement (LFA with Exhaust Clamp) or Catalytic Converter Replacement (LMM) .

  6. Install the engine wiring harness lead (2) to the starter motor.
  7. Install the engine wiring harness lead nut (3).

    Tighten:  Tighten the nut to 3.4 N.m (30 lb in).

  9. Install the starter solenoid cable (7) to the starter.
  10. Install the starter solenoid cable nut (6) to the starter.

    Tighten:  Tighten the nut to 9 N.m (80 lb in).

  11. Install the wheelhouse liner. Refer to Front Wheelhouse Liner Replacement - Right Side (Chevrolet) or Front Wheelhouse Liner Replacement - Right Side (GMC) .
  12. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (Single Battery)  or Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (Dual Batteries)  or Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (Auxiliary Battery) .
