Circuit/System Testing

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the K32 heated steering wheel control module.
  2. Test for less than 5.0 Ω between the ground terminal 6 and ground.
    • If greater than the specified value, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.
  3. Ignition ON, verify a test lamp illuminates between the ignition circuit terminal 5 and ground.
    • If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the ignition circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance.
  4. Install a 3 A fused jumper wire between the indicator control circuit terminal 1 and B+. Verify the heated steering wheel indicator is illuminated.
    • If the indicator does not illuminate, test the control circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, test or replace the S70L steering wheel control switch.
  5. Connect a test lamp between the control circuit terminal 4 and B+.
  6. Observe the test light while applying and releasing the heated steering wheel switch. The test lamp should turn ON and OFF when applying and releasing the switch.
    • If the test lamp is always ON, test the control circuit for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, replace the S70L steering wheel control switch.
    • If the test lamp is always OFF, test the control circuit for an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the S70L steering wheel control switch.
  7. Test for less than 15000 Ω between the control circuit terminal 7 and ground.
    • If greater than the specified value, test the control circuit for an open/high resistance. If the circuit test normal, test or replace the E15 heated steering wheel.
  8. Ignition OFF, connect the at the heated steering wheel control module. Disconnect the harness connector at the heated steering wheel.
  9. Test for less than 5 Ω between the ground circuit terminal A and ground.
    • If greater than the specified value, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.
  10. Test for less than 10 Ω between the signal circuit terminal C and ground.
    • If greater than the specified value, test the signal circuit for an open/high resistance. If the circuit test normal, test or replace the K32 heated steering wheel control module.
  11. Ignition ON, test for 4.8-5.2 volts between the 5-volt reference circuit terminal D and ground.
    • If less than the specified range, test the 5-volt reference circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K32 heated steering wheel control module.
    • If greater than the specified range, test the 5-volt reference circuit for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K32 heated steering wheel control module.
  12. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the K32 heated steering wheel control module.
