Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the drive motor generator control module. Refer to Drive Motor Generator Control Module Assembly Replacement .
    2. Fig 1: Identifying right cylinder head engine harness studs & Retainers

  2. Remove the oil level indicator. Refer to Oil Level Indicator Tube Replacement .
  3. Remove the intake manifold. Refer to Intake Manifold Replacement .
  4. Remove the coolant air bleed pipe. Refer to Engine Coolant Air Bleed Pipe Replacement (LY2, LY6) or Engine Coolant Air Bleed Pipe Replacement (L76,L92,LFA,LH6, LMG,LY5,) .
  5. Remove the right exhaust manifold. Refer to Exhaust Manifold Replacement - Right Side (4.8L, 5.3L, 6.0L, and 6.2L) or Exhaust Manifold Replacement - Right Side (6.6L) or Exhaust Manifold Replacement - Right Side (4.3L) .
  6. Remove the pushrods. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm and Push Rod Replacement .
  7. Remove the engine harness stud (4) from the front of the right cylinder head.
  8. Position the engine harness aside.

    NOTE: The cylinder head bolts are of a torque-to-yield design and are NOT to be reused.
  9. Remove and discard the cylinder head bolts (220, 221).
    10. CAUTION: All camshaft journals are the same diameter, so care must be used in removing or installing the camshaft to avoid damage to the camshaft bearings.
  10. Remove the cylinder head (218).

  11. Remove and discard the cylinder head gasket (217).
  12. If required, clean and inspect the cylinder head. Refer to Cylinder Head Cleaning and Inspection .
