Circuit/System Testing

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2009 GMC Sierra and 2009 Chevrolet Silverado. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Verify that DTC B009F 00, B009F 4A, or B009F 73 is not set.
    • If the DTC is set, program the SDG module. If the DTC resets, replace the SDG module.
  2. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the HVCID sensor.
  3. NOTE: The scan tool must be disconnected and the ignition switch OFF for 30 seconds for proper test results.
  4. Ignition OFF and scan tool disconnected, open and close the driver door, and wait 1 minute.
  5. Test for less than 5.0 ohms between the low reference circuit terminal 2 and ground.
    • If greater than the specified range, test the circuit for an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the SDG module.
  6. Ignition ON, test for less than 1.0 volt between the signal circuit terminal 1 and ground.
    • If greater than the specified range, test the circuit for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal, replace the SDG module.
  7. NOTE: The scan tool must be disconnected and the ignition switch OFF for 30 seconds for proper test results.
  8. Ignition OFF and scan tool disconnected, open and close the driver door, and wait 1 minute.
  9. NOTE: The SDG module will attempt to communicate with the HVCID sensor for 5 seconds immediately after the ignition is turned ON. After 5 seconds the signal circuit will be inactive.
  10. Ignition ON, test for 1.0-3.0 volts AC between the signal circuit terminal 1 and ground. There should be an AC voltage that varies between 1.0 and 3.0 volts for only 5 seconds immediately after the ignition is turned ON.
    • If less than the specified range, test the circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the SDG module.
  11. Verify the SDG module is programmed with the correct software calibration.
    • If the correct software is not installed, program the SDG module.
  12. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the HVCID sensor.
