Removal Procedure

    WARNING: Refer to Battery Disconnect Warning .
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (With Single Battery) , Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (With Auxiliary Battery)  or Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (With Dual Batteries) .
  2. Remove the wheelhouse liner. Refer to Front Wheelhouse Liner Replacement - Right Side (Chevrolet) or Front Wheelhouse Liner Replacement - Right Side (GMC) .
  3. Working through the wheelhouse, remove the starter solenoid cable nut (6) from the starter.
  4. Remove the starter solenoid cable (7) from the starter.

  6. Working through the wheelhouse, remove the engine wiring harness lead nut (3).
  7. Remove the engine wiring harness lead (2) from the starter motor.
  8. Remove the exhaust manifold-to-catalytic converter pipe. Refer to Catalytic Converter Replacement (With LU3) , Catalytic Converter Replacement (With V8 Engine) or Catalytic Converter Replacement (With LMM) .

  10. From under the vehicle, remove the starter motor bolts (1).
  11. Remove the starter motor.
