Extension Housing Rear Oil Seal: Removal

Raise and support the vehicle. Place drain pan under vehicle. Remove the drive shaft. See appropriate DRIVE SHAFTS & UNIVERSAL JOINTS article in DRIVELINE/AXLES. Remove the rear extension oil seal. Use a flat bladed tool and carefully pry the seal from the housing. See Fig 1 . Inspect case housing for damage. Replace extension housing if necessary.
