Four-Wheel-Drive Output Shaft Retaining Nut Installation: Installation

- The fullest clockwise position of the manual shift shaft is Park (P), which engages the park pawl.
- Using a wrench on the manual shift shaft flats (1), rotate the shaft to the fullest clockwise position.
- Ensure the park pawl is engaged.
- Install the J 43769 (1) onto the output shaft retaining nut, 4WD (2). See Special Tools .
- Using the J 43769
(1), install a new output shaft retaining nut, 4WD (2) onto the output shaft (3). See Special Tools .
Tighten: Tighten the nut to 61 N.m (45 lb ft).
- Using a wrench on the manual shift shaft flats (1), rotate the shaft to the fullest clockwise position.
- Rotate the manual shift shaft counterclockwise 2 detent positions.
- Make sure the park pawl is disengaged.
NOTE:

IMPORTANT:
The Neutral (N) position of the manual shift shaft is 2 detent positions counterclockwise from the fullest clockwise position.
