Rear Housing Disassemble

Tools Required

  1. If 2WD vehicle, using J 26941  and J 23907  , remove the slip yoke seal.

  2. If 4WD vehicle, remove the bolts and the main shaft rear bearing retainer from the rear case.

  3. If 4WD vehicle, use a brass drift to remove the main shaft rear bearing from the rear case.

  4. IMPORTANT: The shift shaft rear bushing in the rear case is not serviceable.
  5. Using the J 23907  , remove the rear case shift shaft bushing. The shift shaft bushing may come out without having to use the J 23907  .

  7. Inspect the countershaft rear bearing race.
  8. If the bearing is faulty, use a suitable blind hole puller and a slide hammer to remove the bearing race.
