Removal Procedure

CAUTION:
When raising or supporting the engine for any reason, do not use a jack under any sheet metal, or the crankshaft pulley, or damage may occur.
- Remove the upper intake manifold sight shield. Refer to Upper Intake Manifold Sight Shield Replacement .
- Partially raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
- Remove the right wheelhouse liner. Refer to FRONT WHEELHOUSE LINER REPLACEMENT - RIGHT SIDE (CHEVROLET) or FRONT WHEELHOUSE LINER REPLACEMENT - RIGHT SIDE (GMC) .
- Remove the engine mount to frame bolts (1).
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
- Undo clip for transmission cooler lines.
- Undo the front stabilizer shaft insulators. Refer to STABILIZER SHAFT INSULATOR REPLACEMENT (1500)
- support the differential carrier with a transmission jack.
- Remove the right differential carrier mounting nuts and washers.
- Lower the differential carrier until it rests on the frame/crossmember.
- Remove the right front differential carrier support bracket.
- Position a screw jack and block of wood under the engine oil pan.
- Remove the starter motor. Refer to Starter Replacement .
- Remove the knock sensor. Refer to KNOCK SENSOR 2 REPLACEMENT
- Remove the engine mount to engine bolts (1)
- Using the adjustable jack, raise the engine slightly until there is enough clearance to remove the engine mount.
- Remove the engine mount.
