Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 6 other vehicles, including the 2003 GMC Savana Special, 2003 GMC Savana Camper Special, 2003 GMC Savana, 2003 Chevrolet RV Cutaway, and 2003 Chevrolet Cutaway. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Important  : The compressor is shipped without oil.

  1. Add oil to the compressor. Refer to Compressor Oil Balancing , if replacing the compressor.
  2. Install the compressor (1) to the vehicle.
    CAUTION: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
  3. Install the compressor retaining bolts to the mounting bracket.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the bolts to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).

  4. Install the new sealing washers. Refer to Sealing Washer Replacement .
  5. Install the compressor hose assembly.
  6. Install the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement in ENGINE MECHANICAL - 4.3L .

  7. Connect the clutch coil electrical connector (1) to the compressor.

  8. Connect the A/C high pressure switch electrical connector (2) to the compressor.
  9. Install the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls - 4.3L .
  10. Evacuate and recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  11. Leak test the fittings of the components using the J-39400-A  .
